METTLE MAKER #520: 100 Feats Revisited
One of the things that makes Heritage Rough ‘n’ Tumble truly unique are the feats. No other martial art has anything like them — click here or the photo on right to look over the list..
What the feats do is pull you out of the everyday and into a different realm. They encourage you to engage with the worldview and lifeways of the old timers who used the fighting skills we are preserving, practicing, and perpetuating.
Some of them involve fitness. Some are spiritual, some involve developing primitive skills. Others build mettle — courage, stoicism, and indomitability.
Feats are optional for folks who are in face-to-face training circles because we work them into the training sessions. But they’re required for distance learners — roughly one per month.
If you’re just a pilgrim who’s not in our program, by all means take a look at the list and see what you think. Throw a few into your routine.
Not all self-defense involves punching, kicking, and wrestling.
Heritage Rough ‘n’ Tumble is “Full context Martial Arts.”
I’ve been thinking about removing one or two of the fitness feats to make room for a weather feat or two, like learning the clouds so that you can spot weather changes on the way. Or should I allow the Feats list to expand past 100 to let’s say the 102 Feats? Call me whacky, but “102 Feats List” just doesn’t have a ring to it. Share your thoughts in the comments.
Anyway, click the photo on the left for a graphic of cloud types. With a very bad El Nino on the way, it might just save your life.

Or even better, go to church. The old-timers did, and it’s their steps we’re following in, right? So put on a collared shirt and saddle up.
In other news, the new t-shirts are in. If you want to make a donation to the charity, we can definitely get you one! Just click here.
